Manchester United are in the market for a centre-forward this summer in case you have been living under a rock since the Europa League final defeat.

was the initial target, but he chose to move to Chelsea instead, with the lure of football being too much for the ex-Manchester City man to resist. Since then, the hunt for a centre-forward has gone cold as United have refocused their efforts on the No.10 positions.

has arrived and United remain in talks with Brentford for . However, the hunt for a striker has gone cold.

Ollie Watkins and Ivan Toney have both been linked with Old Trafford this week while , arguably the manager's top pick, seems to be out of reach. With options thin on the ground, Amorim and his recruitment team will arguably be open to suggestions and it appears they have one from an English football legend.

Speaking on , gave a rave review for Borussia Dortmund's Serhou Guirassy. "We’re still waiting to see what Arsenal do, and there are a few other Premier League sides looking for a No. 9 – is he worth taking a punt on?" Lineker asked rhetorically.

"He’s strong, he’s quick – his finishing was really good all season and he was prolific in the Champions League as well." The 29-year-old is currently competing at the Club World Cup in the United States this summer and has scored three goals in four appearances in the international tournament - including a brace against Monterrey in the round of 16.

However, it is his form in Germany and the Champions League which catches the eye. After scoring 11 in 22 for Stuttgart in his first season in the Bundesliga, he bagged a whopping 30 goals in the 2023/24 season.

Following on from these eye-catching performances, Dortmund bought Guirassy and he has repaid their faith immediately. The Guinean scored 34 goals in the Bundesliga and Champions League combined and he is showing no signs of letting up.

The drawback for United would be his price tag. With three years remaining on his deal, Guirassy's price tag is thought to be £60m.

This is pricey for a player who will enter his 30s in March next year but you cannot deny that his goals would benefit United. What's more, he has the same profile as Gyokeres and is the type of striker that Amorim would trust to lead the line.

With money tight, it is hard to necessarily see United splashing such a fee until they have sold players. But, a move for Guirassy would not necessarily be the worst idea.
