Golden State Warriors reportedly expected to land All-Star big by Sunday

The Golden State Warriors The Golden State Warriors have been relatively quiet this NBA offseason, largely in wait-and-see mode in Jonathan Kuminga while waiting for the veteran market to shake out in NBA free agency. On Sunday, they could make their first key addition.

NBA insider Marc Stein reports that center Al Hofford is “eventually” expected to sign with Golden State, as many teams around the league believe it could happen on Sunday.

Al Horford stats: 9.0 PPG, 6.2 RPG, 2.1 APG, 42.3% FG, 0.129 Win Shares per 48 Minutes in 27.7 minutes per game

The Warriors lost center Kevon Looney to the New Orleans Pelicans at the start of NBA free agency, leaving a significant void in the frontcourt. While the Boston Celtics have wanted to re-sign Horford, the club is poised to take a significant step back next season after trading Kristaps Porziņģis and Jrue Holiday to get under the NBA’s apron.

Horford, age 39, drew significant interest from around the league. A five-time All-Star, Horford was sought after by the Los Angeles Lakers, Denver Nuggets, New York Knicks, and Cleveland Cavaliers.

What’s unclear is if Denver could intensify its efforts following recent news that center Jonas Valančiūnas plans to play overseas. However, Stein’s sources say that all indications remain that Horford will land with the Warriors.

Horford would step in as the top big man behind Draymond Green, adding more veteran talent to the Warriors’ rotation. One thing worth noting is that Horford’s Win Shares per 48 Minutes (0.129) is better than how he performed in stints with the Oklahoma City Thunder (0.101) and the Philadelphia 76ers (0.128).
