Dominic Calvert-Lewin makes Leeds United decision – striker eyes next move

Leeds United have been adding serious depth and quality to the team in this transfer window. The Whites have brought in three players so far.

With pre-season beginning in the next few weeks, more players are expected to arrive at Elland Road. Lukas Nmecha brings some top flight experience to the attack. Joel Piroe will now have some competition up top.

Jaka Bijol also arrives to bolster the defence; the Slovenian is expected to compete for a starting spot right away. Sebastiaan Bornauw arrived this week, and is expected to be a backup, replacing the outgoing Max Wober.

Leeds sources have confirmed that the club will be in the market for a new striker this summer. This information came out after the signing of Lukas Nmecha. Many believe the German will be in a more rotational role to fill in other positions rather than being a starter.

Dominic Calver-Lewin announced he would not be signing a new contract at Everton, and will now be a free agent. Leeds were credited with interest in the England forward.

Talksport have now provided an update on a potential deal. The report claims that Leeds United have walked away from a deal to sign Calvert-Lewin due to his wage demands. It is believed that Daniel Farke and the club thought the 28-year old was demanding too much.

Calvert-Lewin is not worth a move

The striker has had very bad luck with injuries and fitness in recent seasons. Calvert-Lewin has played 20 or more league games just once in his last four seasons. The goal returns have also taken a huge hit – within the last four years, his highest tally in the Premier League is seven goals.

Getting a player who is injury prone and has fitness problems along with high wages is not ideal. Leeds United already have one player with that description at the club in Patrick Bamford. What the Whites need is a young, energetic striker who can lead the line from this season.
