Report: 'Best striker in the world' decides to join Man Utd in bombshell transfer this summer

Victor Osimhen has decided he wants to join Manchester United this summer, according to Fichajes.net.

The Red Devils are keen to add a new striker to their squad this summer as Ruben Amorim looks to strengthen his squad, with a host of first-team attackers expected to leave while Matheus Cunha has already joined and a deal is close for Bryan Mbeumo to arrive.

But while a new number nine is also seen as a priority for the window, the club have had trouble locking down a target, and it seems they may have now been given some good news.

Deal not done as still set to be expensive

Osimhen, who has been described as 'the best striker in the world', is expected to leave Napoli permanently this summer after spending the 2024/25 season on loan at Galatasaray, where he shone with 26 goals in 29 appearances in the Super Lig.

The Nigeria international has been targeted by a host of top clubs, but his most serious offer so far this summer came from Saudi Arabia. But after talks before the Club World Cup, he opted to reject the bid as he wants to continue his career in Europe at the highest level.

Now it has emerged that he has made a decision on his preferred destination, and Manchester United are the club that he wishes to join above all other interested parties.

Man Utd have been chasing a striker since they missed out on top target Liam Delap, who opted to join Chelsea instead, and have been heavily linked with both Osimhen and Sporting CP star Viktor Gyokeres.

However, the Sweden international has given his priority to Premier League rivals Arsenal, and it had left the Red Devils in a tricky situation. But Osimhen has now made the bombshell decision to prioritise a move to join Ruben Amorim's squad despite their lack of European football.

A deal isn't close though, as any transfer is expected to be very expensive owing to Napoli's demands for the £65m release clause to be paid in full, while Osimhen is said to be demanding that his current £400,000-a-week wages are matched by his new club.
