Real Madrid and Xabi Alonso appear to be open to selling Rodrygo this summer, but there are increasing questions over whether a move is feasible for Arsenal.

Mario Cortegana reports for The Athletic that both Real Madrid and new head coach Xabi Alonso are open to Rodrygo leaving the club this summer.
The player’s father and agent has complained about his son’s situation at the club, and those complaints reportedly haven’t gone down well. Madrid were therefore open to a sale, and Alonso has agreed that he won’t stand in the way if a suitable offer arrives.
Officially, the club claim they still have no intention of selling, despite Rodrygo being benched in three of their last four games. But behind the scenes, a different story is emerging.

Cortegana adds that Arsenal are among the clubs monitoring Rodrygo, and they’ve held preliminary talks with the player’s representatives. Gunners coaches very much admire Rodrygo, and they view him as an option for their left-hand side.
Yet there have also been suggestions in recent days that such a move may not be feasible for Arsenal alongside all of their other business.
Sami Mokbel reports for the BBC that though well-placed sources have suggested Real Madrid are open to offers, he’d cost at least £70m. That may be too much for Arsenal if they also want to sign a striker, with the player also expecting very high wages.
Mokbel claims there are also some concerns about Rodrygo’s physicality, so it may not be a deal the club are willing to go all out for.

Elsewhere David Ornstein has reported that he believes Arsenal may need to sell Gabriel Martinelli to do a deal for Rodrygo, with such a significant left-wing signing unlikely if Martinelli stays.
There have been some transfer links involving Martinelli and Bayern Munich, or clubs in Saudi Arabia. But nothing is advanced right now, Arsenal are suggesting the winger isn’t for sale, and it’s not clear whether the player would be interested anyway.
Rodrygo’s availability on the market was always the first step towards a potential Arsenal move, and it’s a step we now seem to have taken. But there are quite a few more dominoes that need to fall before the situation can really get serious.
