The New York Giants transformed their quarterback room this offseason.
For good reason, too.
After years of mediocre results from Daniel Jones, New York brought in a veteran signal-caller in Russell Wilson, a backup to him in Jameis Winston and a top draft pick in Jaxson Dart.
The Giants will eventually want to give the long-term keys to like Dart.
Until then, though, it will be Wilson's job to lose.
At one point during his NFL career, Wilson was one of the best quarterbacks in the game. Now, at 36, he's looking to keep his career going as long as possible.
And one former head coach believes Wilson can be a serviceable starter for New York.
Former Atlanta Falcons head coach Mike Smith shared his thoughts on Wilson in New York. The old coach's main point was that the Wisconsin product still has plenty of what it takes to win.
"Based on what I saw last year, I'd say (Aaron) Rodgers and Wilson still have gas left in the tank," Smith said, also mentioning the 41-year-old Rodgers, who replaces Wilson in Pittsburgh. "Are they going to be the same guys they were in their prime? Probably not, but they may be able to play well enough to win.
"That's the key."
Smith faced off against Wilson many times during his career with Atlanta. Wilson won a Super Bowl in just his second season as a starter with the Seattle Seahawks and reached The Big Game twice in his first four years in the league.
He's looking to do whatever he can to show he can be that quarterback again. ... or, at least, to use what "gas in the tank'' he might have left to return to glory.
