First steps on Bournemouth beach to the Premier League with Cherries: Truffert

The French left back joined AFC Bournemouth from Rennes in Ligue 1 last month but arrived in Dorset this week as pre-season preparations begin.

And he already has a connection to the town for a big milestone in his life – not that he remembers it.

His father says Truffert took his very first steps on the golden sands of the Dorset coast and the 23-year-old told afcbTV: “This is what he said! I don’t know because I don’t remember, I don’t have pictures.

“We lived for one year in England but I was young, I was maybe two years old, so I don’t remember.

Truffert said he was excited to get going with the club after signing a five-year deal, which paved the way for previous left back Milos Kerkez to join Liverpool.

“To be honest I’m very happy to be here,” Truffert said.

“For me it’s a very good opportunity to make my start in the Premier League at this club, so I’m very excited and very happy to be here.”

He said his experience in Ligue 1, where he made 150 appearances, will help him in England.

“It will be my first time in the Premier League, but I played a lot of games in Ligue 1, in the French championship,” Truffert said.

“I think it’s important to have experience to be good in the Premier League so we will see how it is going to happen.”

He added: “I am very excited to be honest. I will see when I will make my start, but it was one of my dreams.

“So that is why I am very excited to make my start at the Vitality Stadium in front of the fans, very excited.”

Truffert signed for the club in June, at the start of the transfer window.

He said that was an important factor for him in signing with the club, to ensure he was ready to play at the required level at the beginning of the season.

“For me that’s why I make this choice,” he explained.

“For me to make my start in the Premier League it’s important to come earlier to meet my teammates, to feel good on the pitch.

The left back praised the club’s new performance centre as ‘one of the best in the league’ as he came with his family to visit the facilities in Bournemouth.

For Truffert, family is central: “It’s very important to have my family with me. Since the beginning they were here. When I played with Rennes, they were every week there.

“So for me it is very important to be with my family today to sign to see where I am going to play, so very important to be with my family.”

Andoni Iraola’s playing style needs players with a lot of energy and the way Truffert described his playing style, it sounds like he will fit right in.

“I’m someone who will like to run a lot, to try to do everything for the team,” he said.

“Every game I will play at maybe 2,000 per cent. I will try to do my best, to be at my best level and I am sure that we are going to do very good things together.”
