Victor Osimhen to Man United transfer update clear as club confirm deal for striker

Victor Osimhen of Galatasaray looks on

Victor Osimhen might be on the move this summer

Manchester United are still to make a move for a striker to spearhead Ruben Amorim's new look attack.

Approaching the summer it was clear a new focal point for 's team was required, so all efforts were put into landing . That did not come to fruition as rivals Chelsea won the race and now attention has turned elsewhere.

has successfully been brought in, now the mission is to increase attacking competition with the signing of from Brentford. Optimism is high that an agreement can be reached as the player himself holds out for this specific transfer.

But even with this assurance, United haven't exactly opened any avenues elsewhere. They have but the striker they desire remains unsigned.

With that, the Manchester Evening News analyses the latest United transfer headlines with updates on the futures of two forwards.

Victor Osimhen latest

has clarified that there is no imminent movement for , with no advancement on any possible move to Old Trafford.

There is the €75m (£67m) release clause in his contract which Saudi Pro League side Al-Hilal have shown willingness to match whilst the club he spent last season on loan with, Galatasaray, remain in the fold.

But at the moment it is said to be uncertain whether United have instigated contact in the hope of signing the Nigerian international.

MEN Sport says: They've lost out on Delap, now Manchester United haven't exactly made a move for an alternative striker in the month or so that has followed. The only choices left on the table are in Osimhen's price range and that is the situation the club find themselves in. As he is possibly the best on the market at 26, entering his prime with at least four years to see the best of him, it seems the best deal going.

Jonathan David no longer an option

Jonathan David has been confirmed as a new Juventus player, thus taking one option for United off the market.

The 25-year-old Canadian international had left French Ligue 1 club LOSC Lille on Monday, June 30 following the end of his deal. He had been there five years and in that time scored 109 goals with 30 assists in 232 appearances.

Still not signed to a new side at the time of , there was still chance for United to strike an agreement but then it quickly emerged David was Turin-bound, and now the Italian giants have announced the signing on a five-year contract.

MEN Sport says: United may come to regret this one. David has been consistently scoring for fun in one of Europe's top-five leagues and looking at the state of the transfer market right now, the fact he was available for free instead of north of £60m - as everybody else seems to be - made it seem like a no-brainer. If they wanted to then United would have made a move, so it is strange how they have missed this one whilst Amorim's wait for a striker continues.
