While some may call this matchup expected with the level of play both clubs exhibited throughout the tournament, it doesn't make the upcoming quarterfinal any less exciting. Perhaps even more so given the two played against one another eight months ago during the League Phase in the Champions League — a game Bayern won. PSG are out for revenge while Bayern look to capitalize on the momentum of their last win. PSG enter the quarters with a statement 4-0 win over Inter Miami, while Bayern ride the high of their 4-2 win over a determined Flamengo. The winner of this quarterfinal will take on the winner between Borussia Dortmund and Real Madrid, two familiar faces from the Champions League. DAZN: How to watch the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup for freeHere are 5 things you should know about DAZN, the Saudi-backed British broadcaster airing all 2025 FIFA Club World Cup games for free.1. Bayern has the upper handBayern have the upper hand in their overall head-to-head against PSG, with eight wins to PSG's six. Bayern won all four encounters against PSG in the past four years, the most recent coming during the Champions League league stages in November, where Bayern defeated the eventual champions 1-0. A header from Bayern Defender Kim Min-jae was the club's saving grace in the 38th minute, rebounding off the rebound from PSG goalkeeper Matvey Safonov after Joshua Kimmich's corner kick. Bayern dominated possession in key moments on the pitch, with Bayern midfielder Jamal Musiala attempting two shots on target. However, it was the German club's defensive line that stole the show, preventing a lackluster PSG from finding space to score.A similar strategy could be beneficial for Bayern with the addition of Musiala, who is coming off a knee injury that sidelined him for the remainder of the Champions League. He has yet to start in this tournament, but he served as a substitute twice while finding his footing on the pitch. A healthy Musiala on Saturday afternoon could be the winning ticket for Bayern if joining Michael Olise and Kingsley Coman in the midfield trio.Olise made his mark early on in this tournament with two goals and two assists, while Coman serves in a crucial role on Bayern's left flank, a position that needs stability with Leroy Sané's departure. Coman plays in the coveted winger position, although he hasn't always been able to make his mark with injuries holding him back. At his best, paired with Olise and Musiala, the Frenchman forms a dangerous trio that's bound to restrict PSG's strikers. Gotham FC to kick off Concacaf W Champions Cup defense at Icahn StadiumThe Bats will play in New York City for the first time in club history when they host CF Monterrey Femenil at Randall’s Island in August. Tickets cost $30 and are available now.2. PSG is on a hot streakDespite the disadvantage in the head-to-head, PSG is on somewhat of a hot streak. The Parisian club entered the Club World Cup as Ligue 1 champions and Champions League winners, with several Portuguese players of the squad winning the Nations League for Portugal a few weeks later.Luis Enrique's 2025 squad is a more cohesive, more disciplined cohort, finding rhythm among young stars looking to make history for their team rather than conflicting egos competing against each other for the star striker position. It's no longer a dissonance of big names in confined roles — it's a symphony of players embracing a bigger purpose.Young Portuguese talent is the heart of this group, with João Neves and Vitinha joining Fabian Ruiz in the midfield as Nuno Mendes picks apart what remains of the opposition alongside William Pacho, Marquinhos, and Achraf Hakimi. Enrique weaves a defensive lineup so tight that opponents find themselves trapped in an invisible web before being picked off one by one. It's more than enough to ease the pressure off his frontline, which wouldn't be a problem regardless, given the quality of PSG's starting attackers.Bayern face a determined, more experienced PSG out for revenge. With a frontline consisting of anyone from Désiré Doué to Kvicha Kvaratskheli to a freshly recovered Ousmane Dembele, the Bundesliga champions face a hardened opponent on Saturday. Are the New York Cosmos back?Sources tell Hudson River Blue a new iteration of the Cosmos will debut in USL League One in 2026, and will play at historic Hinchliffe Stadium in Paterson, NJ.3. Donnarumma on lockOne simply cannot talk enough about Donnarumma's impact on this newly improved PSG team. His clean sheet against Arsenal in the second leg of the Champions League semi-final was one of the performances of the tournament, saving three goals that would have sent Arsenal to the Champions League final. Prior to that, he sent PSG to the quarterfinals after saving two penalty kicks from Liverpool's Darwin Nunez and Curtis Jones in the deciding penalty shootout. There's no doubt the Italian goalkeeper earned his Man of the Match award that day. It hasn't been a one-off since then either. Donnarumma continuously showed out in this year's Club World Cup, keeping clean sheets in all three of PSG's wins. The only exception came with PSG's loss to Botafogo, where he conceded a goal to an inspired Igor Jesus. With seven saves total, he's kept PSG's goals held to nil. His consistency in goal is key to PSG's defensive strategy – the last line of defense should attacking opposition manage to break through that brick wall of a midfield. 4. Harry Kane vs Ousmane DembéléEngland versus France. Forward versus forward. This is inevitable showdown. Both men are invaluable to their respective clubs, with each named the top goal scorer for their clubs during the 2024-2025 season. Dembélé is currently on track to be a serious Ballon d'Or contender, ending his season with 33 goals and 15 assists, two of which came during the Champions League final. Kane won the first trophy of his career when he lifted the Bundesliga title with Bayern, earning Bundesliga Player of the Season for his phenomenal showing for the club. Needless to say, it will be a battle between two certified goal-scorers, more so now that Dembélé could be placed in PSG's Starting XI. A face-off between these two is certainly the entertainment FIFA was hoping for when both clubs won their quarterfinal games. No doubt Dembélé will be extra eager to get on the pitch after being sent off the last time PSG faced Bayern.Kane is certainly enjoying his Club World Cup journey, already notching three goals during his time on the pitch. Dembélé is still finding his feet, only stepping onto Club World Cup territory as a sub against Inter Miami following a thigh injury. Despite the lack of play, Dembélé is not one to count out. He's fluid, adapting to his opponent rather than sticking with one style of play. It's a counter to Kane's susceptibility to push forward and attack. 5. Farewell, Leroy SanéBayern officially bid farewell to Sané following the club's win over Flamengo on Sunday. The German left for Galatasaray on Tuesday after five years and four Bundesliga titles with Bayern. It was a bittersweet goodbye held in a team hotel in Orlando, leaving in the middle of the tournament with gifts and a framed jersey. No one can say Sané did not leave a lasting impression at Bayern with his 61 goals and 55 assists. However, he didn't have the best performance in his last few games for the club in the Club World Cup. The winger missed a chance to score against Flamengo after a one-on-one against Flamengo goalkeeper Agustin Rossi went sideways. It was a similar story in his group stage matches, failing to convert key scoring chances, not that Bayern needed it. His struggle left much to be desired in that problematic left flank side, leaving Coman to make up the difference when he was healthy enough. His departure leaves room for a potential new face to take up the mantle along the left. For now, Coman will have to remain healthy enough to hold down the fort for the remainder of the tournament.
