All the latest news and transfer rumours surrounding Arsenal.
Arsenal may not have been quick out of the blocks in June, but they are quickly catching up with their transfer business. The Gunners have already announced a couple of deals, and they are likely to complete many more in the coming weeks.
The Gunners have ticked off a number of needs, but they need to sign a striker before the start of the new season, while they could also do with a winger. Here we round up all the latest news and transfer rumours surrounding the Emirates Stadium.
Gyokeres decision
Arsenal have reportedly decided to prioritise a deal to sign Viktor Gyokeres over RB Leipzig frontman Benjamin Sesko. According to Football Insider, the Gunners have been spinning both plates but have ultimately decided to press ahead with their efforts to sign Gyokeres.
It’s reported the striker held talks with current club Sporting CP this week to try to thrash out a solution ahead of his scheduled return for pre-season testing next week. Gyokeres is said to want a move this summer, but Arsenal face a tough task to convince Sporting CP amid high fee demands.
Martinelli interest
Saudi Arabian club Al-Nassr are said to be preparing a £73million offer to sign Arsenal’s Gabriel Martinelli. According to GiveMeSport, the Brazilian is being considered after Liverpool informed the Saudi club they would not be considering the sale of Luis Diaz.
Al-Nassr need to replace Cristiano Ronaldo this summer, and it’s claimed Martinelli is a possible option. Arsenal could well strengthen out wide this summer, but the sale of Martinelli would mean they have to buy two widemen.
Tomiyasu’s goodbye
Arsenal confirmed the departure of Takehiro Tomiyasu on Friday, with the defender mutually agreeing to end his contract early. After the news broke, the defender posted on his social media channels: “After 4 unforgettable years, the time has come for me to say goodbye to this incredible club. Obviously, I have got many things to say, but the thing that I want to tell you guys the most is just thank you for the love you guys gave me. I was so happy to be here with my teammates, Mikel, the coaching staff, supporting staff, everyone who was around me in this club.
"From my first day at the Emirates to every moment wearing the red and white, it has truly been an honor to represent this badge. To the supporters, thank you for the love you’ve been giving me on and off the pitch. I will never forget it, and it will stay in me forever. To the teammates, I’m so happy that we’ve shared many memories with you guys, because I know how good you guys are, not only as a player but as a person. I’m looking forward to seeing each of you guys ON the pitch soon. It’s time for a new chapter, but I’m forever proud to have been a Gunner. Once a Gunner, always a Gunner. ARIGATO and all the best, Tomi.”
