Manchester United have been linked to the Serie A star alongside several other world class strikers.
Ruben Amorim wants to add a number nine this summer to replace Rasmus Hojlund, who managed to score just four goals in the Premier League last season. Having already added Matheus Cunha as a number 10, Amorim wants someone who can play in front of the former Wolves star.
Osimhen is set to leave the Italian club this summer after a year on loan at Turkish giants Galatasaray. He has received interest from the Premier League, with several top clubs keen to add the Nigerian.
Osimhen ‘chooses’ Man United move
The Nigerian international was excellent for Galatasaray last season, scoring 37 goals in all competitions. He has a £63m release clause at Napoli, and is pushing for a permanent move away this summer after failing to secure one last year.
According to a report by Spanish outlet Fichajes, Osimhen has ‘chosen’ Manchester United as the club that he wants to join after Napoli. The report says that he has expressed his willingness to get on board with the project that Ruben Amorim is building at Old Trafford.
It adds that there has not been any work to complete a deal yet, but the ball is in Man United’s court following Osimhen’s preference reveal this week. All that United need to do now, is begin talks with Napoli over a potential transfer fee.
Could Man United afford Osimhen?
The biggest issue with the Napoli striker will be his price, as the Red Devils can’t really afford to spend £63m on Osimhen as well as the £62.5m on Cunha and likely over £65m on Bryan Mbeumo from Brentford.
It means that United will certainly need to make some player sales to be able to afford Osimhen. One name that could provide a huge funds boost is Alejandro Garnacho, who is linked with a move to rivals Chelsea.
Consider the likely sales of Jadon Sancho, Antony, and Marcus Rashford too, and a deal for Osimhen is very doable. It could finally mean that United have found their ideal striker target, because he clearly wants a move to Old Trafford.
