Aston Villa are yet to receive a concrete approach for Emi Martinez

Emi Martinez’s future at Aston Villa remains uncertain in this summer’s transfer window.
The 32-year-old has already been linked with several clubs, but there have been no concrete developments in terms of negotiations during the opening month of the window.
Martinez was visibly emotional after Villa’s final home game of the season against Tottenham, aware it may have been his last appearance at Villa Park - at least as a home player.
It’s understood that Martinez - who turns 33 later this year - is open to a new challenge in his career.
This is despite signing a long-term contract in August, which gives Villa a relatively strong position in any potential negotiations, as he still has several years remaining on his deal.
However, there must also be a market for Martinez. He is one of Villa’s highest earners and is reportedly valued at around £40 million.
Manchester United are believed to be interested, though a move would likely require them to find a buyer for André Onana, whom they signed a couple of summers ago.
Onana, however, is settled at Old Trafford and reportedly determined to prove himself as the club’s number one next season, despite a challenging campaign.
Chelsea have also been linked with Martinez, though multiple sources have since dismissed those reports.
Saudi Arabia did not initially appeal to Martinez, as he prefers to remain in Europe. A move to Galatasaray also seems unlikely, as the Villa goalkeeper is intent on competing in top-tier competitions.
That leaves Atlético Madrid as a possible destination - provided they can make room in the squad by offloading Jan Oblak, whose own future is uncertain.
For now, Villa are awaiting formal contact from any interested clubs and will evaluate their options once discussions begin.
The club must reduce its wage bill this summer following talks with UEFA, and Martinez is among the squad’s highest earners.
