West Ham fans well remember the failed pursuit of Colombian Jhon Duran: The deal that was just £5 million away from a conclusion: West Ham’s chairman David Sullivan back pedalled and the player slipped away. The delicious irony of this cannot be lost on West Ham fans now with the arch enemy Spurs underbidding for Mohammed Kudus.
According to the reports, Spurs £50 million and subsequent £55 million bids have been rejected any the Hammers as the arch underbidder David Sullivan holds out against Levy’s lowball.
Chelsea are reported to be about to re-enter the bidding ring and Levy’s problem is that a Chelsea deal could easily evolve in an instant: The “right midfielder” that West Ham need so badly plus a bucket load of cash and Sullivan would just say ‘yes thanks’ leaving his nemesis looking very silly: West Ham’s chairman knows only too well how humiliating that would feel, having suffered the same fate when his scheme to buy Duran on the cheap collapsed.

Hammers fans have never let him forget it and I suspect Levy would get the same treatment from Tottenham supporters if he fails with his cheap Kudus plot.
Spurs-web.com offers comment typical of how the Spuds’ fanbase is feeling:
“Losing on Kudus will be a terrible look for Tottenham: If Spurs’ pursuit of Kudus is hijacked by Chelsea, there would be an almighty meltdown from Tottenham fans on social media, and one cannot blame them, given how the club have dragged their feet so far this summer.”
Silently, Hammers fans will be hoping, If Kudus has to go, that West London blue is better than North London white and blue, whilst keeping their fingers crossed that a deal can be done which leaves Levy out in the cold.
David Sullivan sure knows how it feels when a scheme to buy on the cheap goes wrong and will be, I’m sure, hoping for a higher Chelsea bid to inflict that same fate on our North London neighbour.
