David Ornstein shares whether Mohammed Kudus is actually close to joining Tottenham

Tottenham have been prioritising bringing in some more attacking talent this summer.

Indeed, the north London club want to sign a new right winger.

Antoine Semenyo was a Tottenham target at one point, while Spurs were also keen on Bryan Mbeumo earlier this summer.

Sadly, it now looks like neither of those deals will be progressing as Semenyo has signed a new contract and Mbeumo looks set for Manchester United.

Luckily, Tottenham have another option in mind in the shape of Mohammed Kudus.

Spurs bid for Kudus earlier this week, but according to David Ornstein, speaking on The Athletic, this saga isn’t close to a conclusion at this point.

Mohammed Kudus saga not close to a conclusion

Ornstein shared what he knows about Kudus and Tottenham’s interest.

The journalist says that a move to Tottenham would appeal to Kudus, but, so far, this situation isn’t close to a conclusion.

“They have a reported interest in him. We don’t know of it being more than him being one of the options they’re considering. We’ve reported that they enquired about Antoine Semenyo at Bournemouth having previously liked Bryan Mbeumo and Semenyo has signed a new contract,” Ornstein said.

“So yeah, Kudus is in the orbit of clubs like Tottenham. West Ham might need to sell a player and he’s their most obvious asset.

“I think Tottenham would carry appeal to someone like him, Champions League football and staying in London, but there will be other options as well, and I don’t think this one is close to a conclusion as of yet.”

Mohammed Kudus compared to Tottenham’s right wing options

Kudus to Tottenham appears to be an active situation in the transfer market, but there is a question to be raised around whether or not Spurs actually need to spend big on a player like this.

Indeed, as good as Kudus is, Tottenham already have some quality options down the right wing.

Brennan Johnson was the man of the hour in the Europa League final at the end of last season, while Dejan Kulusevski was Tottenham’s best player last season according to some.

Goals 11 7 5

Assists 3 4 3

Of course, Kulusevski has been shining centrally, but he does remain an option down the right, as does Johnson.

There’s a genuine argument to be made that Kudus would be Spurs third-best right wing option if he signed for the club, and it could be the case that Spurs are better off spending their cash elsewhere.
