Billionaire NBA and Los Angeles Lakers legend Magic Johnson has flaunted his time on a £117million superyacht as he relaxes with his wife Cookie in Capri, Italy. The 65-year-old was declared a billionaire by Forbes in 2023, making him just the fourth athlete to join the exclusive club at the time, recently joined by Wimbledon royalty Roger Federer.
In retirement, Johnson owns ownership stakes in numerous sports teams but the majority of his wealth comes from a life insurance company. He made just £29m from his NBA career despite being regarded by many as the greatest point guard of all time, with five championships to his name.
Johnson hopped on board the 312-foot yacht, called Whisper, and shared a clip of himself on the treadmill while the camera zooms out and captures the magnitude of the vessel. He captioned the post: "You don't need much motivation to workout with this beautiful backdrop!"
He does not own the yacht, however. That title belongs to Fulham and Jacksonville Jaguars owner Shahid Khan and it can be rented for the weekly price of £1.1m.
For that pretty penny though, there are plenty of luxury amenities on offer. Whisper is built over five decks and boasts seven cabins on the main deck, with accommodation for up to 14 guests.
Khan once said of his boat: "Walt Disney once famously said ‘If you can dream it, you can do it’. When you experience (Whisper), you know this to be true. And for that, Lurssen (manufacturer) should be extremely proud.”
If you are dreaming of your own nightclub on board, then you are in luck. The bridge deck on Whisper features a beach club-inspired lounge that converts into a disco nightclub.
In eyesite is one of two helipads, one which transforms into a dance floor at night.
Up on the main deck is another helipad, near to a tented dining area and a basketball court for NBA icon Johnson to keep on top of his game. As many as 270 guests can be on board when the yacht is attached to shore.
Whisper is complete with a Persian-inspired spa below its sundeck, features a pool and a spa pool, hammam, cold plunge pool, steam shower, and massage room alongside a separate hair and beauty salon and dedicated onboard hairdresser.
On deck is another mosaic-tiled 39.3-foot pool with an integrated jacuzzi, with another spa pool on board in the owner’s suite.
The jaw-dropping ship is up for sale but anyone willing to part with just over £1m can live like Khan and Johnson for a week.
