Manchester United’s summer transfer window has been a frustrating one so far, but there is finally positive movement in their pursuit of Bryan Mbeumo, with talks now edging closer to an agreement.

The Red Devils have made just one signing to date, with Matheus Cunha arriving from Wolves in a deal worth £62.5 million.

The transfer was completed quickly after both clubs reached an agreement to pay Cunha’s release clause in equal instalments.

Manchester United then identified Bryan Mbeumo as their next target.

The Brentford forward has made it known that a move to United is his preferred option, despite attracting interest from Arsenal, Newcastle United, and Tottenham Hotspur.

United have already seen two bids rejected by Brentford.

The second offer stood at £55 million upfront plus £7.5 million in add-ons.

However, the Bees value the player, who registered 27 goal contributions last season, in excess of £63 million.

Brentford also prefer a larger guaranteed sum rather than add-ons forming a significant part of the fee.

According to The Daily Mail, United are now increasingly confident, with negotiations progressing well and an agreement believed to be close as the two clubs work towards a compromise over the transfer fee.

The report adds that Amorim does not plan for Mbeumo to be his only addition this summer, but further arrivals will depend on raising funds through player sales.

Mbeumo’s current wage at Brentford is around £50,000 per week, with his proposed salary at Manchester United coming in below £200,000 weekly.

This represents a significant pay rise but remains comfortably within the club’s budget.

Adding Mbeumo to the squad would be a major boost as Manchester United look to challenge at the top of the Premier League once again.

While a new striker remains a priority for the Red Devils, it is not guaranteed that a signing in that position will happen.

Should a deal for Mbeumo be finalised, additional signings will need to be financed by offloading players.
