Paris Saint-Germain coach Luis Enrique is set to face off with Bayern Munich today in the Club World Cup, but the matchup between the two power clubs also represents the first meeting since the Bavarians allegedly attempted to lure PSG winger Bradley Barcola away from France.
“We like the fact that our players are interesting to other clubs. But he’s one of those young players we’ve been banking on. He’s had an outstanding season. I expect him to play here for many more years, and I think he wants to. So, I have no doubt he’ll remain our player,” Enrique said (as captured by Sky Germany’s Kerry Hau via @iMiaSanMia).
Barcola was always considered a massive longshot for Bayern Munich and PSG showed that it has no interest in letting Barcola go, even for a big proposal. It was a pursuit that made very little sense, but also one that showed Bayern Munich is not afraid to at least try to disrupt one of the world powerhouse clubs.
