Japanese defender Takehiro Tomayisu has left Arsenal, after both parties agreed to an early parting of the ways.
He had one year left on his current contract at the Emirates.
The player has been dogged by injuries during his time in North London, with a series of muscle and knee problems. In all he made 84 appearances for the club, but what has proved to be his last game was on the final day of the 2023/2024 season when he scored an equaliser at home to Everton.
He soon became a fan favourite under Mikel Arteta, who valued him for his utility – he could cover both full-back roles and also drop in at centre-back. But, ultimately, his continued inability to stay fit, means that it is better for all concerned that he continues his career elsewhere, perhaps in a less physical league.
Arguably, the Gunners are now well covered in all the defensive positions, especially if they are able to add Christhian Mosquera to their squad this summer.

He loves all sports but football is his abiding passion, and he still has dreams every now and then about scoring the winning goal in a Wembley Cup Final, even though his playing days are long gone. He follows most major leagues, across Europe at least, and has a favoured team in each. When he’s not watching, listening, reading or downloading podcasts about football, he spend his time worrying about his beloved Arsenal.
