Report: FA begin planning Diogo Jota tribute during Liverpool's Community Shield clash with Crystal Palace

Liverpool did not just lose a great footballer when Diogo Jota died, but they also lost an amazing person.

When news of Jota’s passing first emerged, most fans were praying that it could not be true, but, unfortunately, that wasn’t the case.

In the early hours of Thursday morning, Jota and his brother, Andre Silva, were driving towards the Spanish town of Santander when they reportedly attempted to overtake the car in front of them, and their tyre popped.

This resulted in their car veering off the road and catching fire and both brothers passing away.

Tributes have poured in from across the globe for both players, with Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher among those to post a heartfelt message.

And, although the news is only a couple of days old, the FA are already planning ways to celebrate the life of Jota.

The FA are set to honour Diogo Jota and his brother

Liverpool have delayed their return for pre-season to allow their players some extra time to deal with the grief after Jota’s passing.

Their first actual game of the season will come against Crystal Palace on 10 August when the Premier League sides face off for the first bit of silverware available.

And, as per a new report from BBC Sport journalist Sami Mokbel, the FA are ‘open’ to dedicating the occasion to Jota’s life.

Officials from the FA are set to ‘open dialogue’ with Liverpool and Palace regarding the best way to create memorial plans.

The report adds that the FA will ‘take guidance’ from the Anfield outfit before going ahead with any proposed plans.

Liverpool should dedicate the 2025-26 season to Diogo Jota

The fact that Jota is actually gone hasn’t quite sunk in yet.

The attacker was just 28 years old and had only just married the love of his life two weeks ago.

Life is a precious thing, and this entire situation has put things massively into perspective.

You’ll never walk alone, Diogo, you’ll forever be Liverpool’s number 20.
