Newcastle set to sign Liverpool’s 16-year-old wunderkind

Newcastle United are closing in on a deal for Liverpool academy midfielder Isaac Moran following the teenager’s decision to reject an offer to remain at Anfield.

As first teased by Daily Mail and later confirmed by Dominic Scurr of the Shields Gazette, Newcastle have moved swiftly to take advantage of Moran’s availability, with the 16-year-old expected to join the Magpies’ Under-18s for the 2025–26 season.

Moran featured for Liverpool’s U18 side last season and has already captained England at youth international level. Although players under 17 cannot sign professional contracts, they can agree to scholarship terms that eventually convert into full-time deals once they turn 18.

Liverpool reportedly hoped to retain the highly-regarded midfielder but were rebuffed by the player, opening the door for Newcastle’s latest youth-level swoop.

Moran’s the latest in a growing line of academy acquisitions, following the signings of Alfie Hutchison and Oliver Goodbrand from Rangers earlier this offseason, as well as Spanish forward Antonio Cordero and Georgian striker Vakhtang Salia, who will join the Magpies organization starting next year.

In the same report, Scurr also notes that Newcastle have also signed Joe Brayson, Luke Craggs, and Logan Watts to their first professional deals, all of them coming through the club’s youth ranks.

Since Eddie Howe’s hiring as Newcastle’s manager, the club has promoted several prospects to senior involvement, including Lewis Miley and Trevan Sanusi.
