Lescott visits new community project in Washington Heights, New York

Last month, Club legend Joleon Lescott paid a special visit to our latest community soccer project in Washington Heights, New York.

During the visit, Lescott met young participants and witnessed first-hand the inspiring work being done to uplift the wellbeing of the local community through the power of soccer.

The initiative offers free soccer programming for 250 local children, creating a safe and inclusive space where young people can stay active, build life skills, and strengthen community bonds.

Earlier this year, CITC Coaches travelled to New York to deliver a Young Leader training program to 25 Young Leaders involved in the project.

This training equipped participants with essential coaching and leadership skills, empowering them to use soccer as a tool for positive change in their neighbourhoods.

Since 2016, we’ve trained over 7,000 Young Leaders across six continents, with more than 150 coaches travelling globally to share their expertise. In New York alone, City in the Community NYCFC has trained more than 25 Young Leaders, building a strong foundation for local community impact.

This new project is directly funded by the ‘City and Milan for Change’ initiative that took place in the summer of 2024 as part of our pre-season tour.
