'We are pleased...': David Moyes speaks out after handing latest transfer blow to Wrexham

Wrexham have now missed out on another rumoured transfer target, who has instead renewed his stay with a Premier League club.

It’s been quite a slow start for Wrexham this summer. Whilst there remains the best part of two months of the summer transfer window, fans are getting antsy waiting for a real marquee signing to be announced.

Last month, Wrexham signed Ryan Hardie in a deal from Plymouth Argyle. It was a good start, but Wrexham fans are divided about Danny Ward who became the second signing earlier this week.

Phil Parkinson no doubt has plenty of irons in the fire. But we don’t seem to have any names closing in making the move to the Racecourse, with more names seemingly ruling themselves out of the move.

The likes of Tom Cairney looks set to stay at Fulham despite having an offer to move to Wrexham. And now another Premier League star wanted by the Dragons has renewed his stay with his current club: Michael Keane.

Michael Keane signs new Everton deal amid Wrexham transfer interest

Last month, Wrexham were linked with a move for Keane. The former England centre-back saw his Toffees contract officially expire at the end of June and there were widespread rumours about where he might head to: Wrexham were mentioned as a possible destination, along with the likes of Premier League Leeds United.

But David Moyes has handed the 32-year-old a new contract at Everton, and Keane has accepted. Speaking to the club, Moyes said: “We are pleased Michael has agreed to stay with us. His performances at Fulham and Newcastle at the end of last season showed the value he can bring to our squad. We will need his experience and professionalism as we go forward.”

Wrexham look to be in pretty desperate need of another centre-back or two. But Keane becomes another to have snubbed the chance to move to Wales this summer, after Jonny Evans took on a coaching role at Man United despite links to Wrexham.

Who will be the next signing at Wrexham this summer?

Parkinson certainly has the feelers out for some new signings. But there’s no real concrete reports of a signing in the offing, other than that of Lewis O’Brien it seems.

It’s reported that Wrexham are tabling a £5million bid for O’Brien, which would make him the Dragons’ most-expensive signing of all time.

And in a boost for Wrexham, Hull City have been placed under a transfer embargo and it was the Tigers who were pushing hard to sign O’Brien, who was also open to the idea of joining Hull City this summer.

Meanwhile, Wrexham are keeping tabs on some Sheffield Wednesday players amid their ongoing uncertainty: Josh Windass and Barry Bannan are liked by Parkinson and if the Owls’ situation deteriorates soon, we could see Wrexham bring in a couple of their players.

Wrexham’s pre-season tour of Australia and New Zealand gets underway on July 11th.
