The Turkish international has got attention from Manchester United, Tottenham Hotspur, and Inter Milan, as per CaughtOffside. He has played under Arne Slot before, at Feyenoord. Their relationship could be a deciding factor to finalizing a deal.
Benfica are said to be willing to sell the 24-year-old kid as this summer. However, they are holding out for around €40m. Galatasaray and Fenerbahce are tracking his moves as well. But, the player wants to test himself in England.
Kokcu’s style suits Reds’ current attacking play. Although, they already have midfielders like Alexis Mac Allister and Dominik Szoboszlai to offer creativity. The head coach may be eyeing for a more advanced or flexible role.
The Dutch manager wants a more fluid front line. So, Kokcu’s versatility could come in handy. His familiarity with Slot’s tactics could give him a smoother start.
Man Utd Still in the Hunt, But May Fall Short
Man Utd are also tracking Kokcu closely. They might appeal to the player with the promise of more regular playing time. Christian Eriksen is likely to leave this summer and Utd are struggling with creativity in midfield. So, the Turkish player could walk into the first team.
However, unlike Liverpool, Utd don’t have the personal connection that the player shares with Slot. The midfielder’s camp is open to any Premier League opportunity. Sources suggest the PL champions are his preferred destination.
United will have a tough ask convincing Kokcu to turn down a reunion with his former coach. With nothing official yet, both clubs remain in the race. But, Liverpool are clearly in the driver’s seat for now.
