Leeds have shown significant interest in Leece striker Nikola Krstovic.
Daniel Farke’s side have already added Jaka Bijol, Lukas Nmecha and Sebastiaan Bornauw to their ranks ahead of their return to the Premier League.
However, significant doubts remain over their forward options, with only Joel Piroe, the Championship’s top scorer last season, deemed good enough for the top flight.
The expectation is that they will bring in upgrades on Mateo Joseph and Patrick Bamford and the Montenegrin fits the bill.

Leeds signing Krstovic would be a gamble
Reports from Italy (30 June) suggested that Leeds’ increased interest in Krstovic has led Leece to start seeking a replacement, ahead of a potential £25.5million move.

However, the players has reportedly now frozen the Whites out, after Roma entered the race for his signature.
Iconic commentator Ian Darke believes that Krstovic would have been a gamble for Leeds, so it would not be a disaster if they miss out.
Speaking exclusively to MOT Leeds News, he said: “A player succeeds in a good league, facing good defenders in Italy, for him to come up with 11 goals, suggests he knows where the back of the net is.
“That is quite a big fee, it is a punt and you would have to say, it is a bit of an expensive punt.
“They will only know when they get to November or December, whether it is a punt that is liable to come off.
“Loads of players have come into England and been big successes, you are just hoping that your recruitment team have identified the right guy.
“He has certainly stuck his head above the parapet, with the 11 goals for Leece, I noticed, he scored five in the Conference League as well, so he has scored in European games as well, when he was playing for Red Star.
“I think those are the kind of players, and at that sort of mid-range players, are the type that they have got to go for.”

The 25-year-old has proven that he can contribute in a top league, which is something that the Elland Road side are crying out for.

The LS11 need goals if they are to have any chance of staying in the division after a two-year absence, and Krstovic would give them exactly that.
The 49ers Enterprises group need to back Farke to get a forward, but they may have to turn their attention elsewhere after the latest developments.
