Burnley have signed defender Kyle Walker from Manchester City in a deal that could be worth up to £5million if several bonuses are met this season.

The deal sees the 35-year-old sign a two-year deal at Turf Moor, ending his successful stay at City where he won six Premier League titles and a Champions League crown amid 17 major honours.

Walker's future was made clear when he was left out of City's Club World Cup squad last month. He had spent the second half of last season on loan at AC Milan but they rejected the chance to sign the England international for £4.2million.

City will bank a £5million fee only if certain clauses are met during this season, but they will save £10million as a result of getting Walker's wages off the books for the final year of his contract.

His move to Burnley sees him reunite with Scott Parker, the Clarets boss who used to play with Walker at Tottenham. Parker steered the Lancashire side back into the Premier League last season and they had an outstanding defensive record in the Championship.

Walker's departure is the first of several sales that City are aiming to complete during this transfer window. Kalvin Phillips and Jack Grealish are also set to leave, although Phillips' situation is the fact he is currently injured. James McAtee is also likely to be sold, but he only ended his stint with England Under-21s at the European Championship last weekend.

Pep Guardiola's Club World Cup squad also included 24 outfield players and he is likely to want to offload at least a couple of them, with the Catalan making it clear he wants to work with a smaller group.

Walker will leave having made 319 appearances for the club, scoring six goals. He was club captain for 18 months until his temporary move to Milan in January.

City are monitoring the right-back market this summer and could move for a permanent replacement during the window, having shown an interest in Newcastle defender Tino Livramento in June.
