Stina Blackstenius’ Sweden got their Euro 2025 campaign off to a victorious start by beating neighbours Denmark 1-0 in Geneva.
The scorer of our winning goal in the Champions League final started for her country up front, playing the full 90 minutes to help her side start their quest for a second European Championship title in perfect fashion.
A goalless first half saw Sweden create the best opportunities but go in at the break without anything to show for their efforts, but that all changed on 55 minutes when Filippa Angeldal linked up with Kosovare Asllani and the Real Madrid midfielder fired into the bottom corner.

Stina then came so close to doubling that advantage a couple of minutes later when she saw a volley hooked off the line by Frederikke Thogersen. There was a scare for Sweden when Pernille Harder smashed a shot from 25 yards off the crossbar with 10 minutes remaining, but they held off the Dane’s late pressure to collect the three points.
Next up for the Swedes is a meeting with Poland in Lucerne on Tuesday, when Stina will be hoping to add a 119th international cap to her collection.
Saturday sees eight Gunners hoping to get their first taste of action of these championships. Daphne van Domselaar and Victoria Pelova face Wales before Leah Williamson, Lotte Wubben-Moy, Beth Mead, Chloe Kelly, Alessia Russo and Michelle Agyemang could line up for the Lionesses’ game against France.
