“Bayern won’t have possession the entire time. It will be a game of principles. Both teams don’t place the greatest emphasis on possession, but rather on winning the ball. That’s a similarity. In these games, you have to earn the right to have space, to win back the ball, to create goal scoring chances,” Kompany said (as captured by @iMiaSanMia). “Games like these test us in every way: You have to be strong in the press, and as a reward, you might create a chance. But you’re also forced to defend because the players you’re facing are very good, confident, and fast.
“We also have pace on our side—but these games are always very close. For the first 20 minutes, you can perhaps imagine what will happen afterwards, but no one can predict that right now.”
The game will be a fascinating battle of talent and tactics, which could make some fans forget about the possession stats for just a bit.
