Callum Wilson is no longer a Newcastle United player after his contract expired in June, and Eddie Howe is eager to find his replacement.
Despite the impending arrival of Anthony Elanga, the Magpies appear to be a little bit bare in attack at this point in time.
The striker position is in need of improvement this summer following the departure of Callum Wilson. In June, a Newcastle United statement read that the club were in talks over a new deal for Wilson, but nothing has been announced since then, meaning he is no longer part of the club.
With no word on a new deal, the general consensus is that Wilson has left Newcastle and is now exploring his other options this summer. At 33, he will be eager to remain in the Premier League but may have to drop down a league or move abroad for regular football.
Reports stated that Burnley are interested in Wilson on a free transfer this summer, while Everton and Leeds were keeping tabs on him before his contract expired. The Magpies are keen on signing a new striker and had Dominic Calvert-Lewin in mind. However, they have just been informed that he could now move abroad this summer.

Newcastle United target Dominic Calvert-Lewin attracting interest from the Bundesliga
Last week, Calvert-Lewin confirmed his departure from Everton after nine years with the club. The 28-year-old struggled during the 2024/25 Premier League campaign, scoring just three goals in 26 appearances.
After losing his place in Everton’s starting XI, he made the reluctant decision to leave and look for opportunities elsewhere. Newcastle have a long-standing interest in Calvert-Lewin and nearly signed him in 2024. The deal was called off due to the Magpies’ ongoing PSR concerns at the time.
Newcastle fans think Calvert-Lewin is signing for the club after his release, but it has been confirmed by transfer reporter Florian Plettenberg that there have been enquiries from the Bundesliga for Calvert-Lewin.

It was recently said that Calvert-Lewin has interest from 10-15 clubs, so Newcastle are facing the tough task of bringing him to Tyneside. Despite his poor form over the last couple of seasons, Calvert-Lewin is still seen as a big player to sign due to the quality he has shown in the past.
Newcastle United could still sign Dominic Calvert-Lewin amid Bundesliga interest
With Wilson now gone, Newcastle have a space in the first-team squad that needs to be filled. Of course, Eddie Howe could look to his academy players like Sean Neave to take the space, but he will ideally want someone with a bit more experience who can help them in their return to the Champions League.
Calvert-Lewin clearly has a lot of options at the table, but Newcastle are still in a position where they can offer him the chance to play Champions League football and be part of the project that PIF are building for the next couple of years at least.
Geordie Boot Boys were told there is a very good chance Newcastle will sign Calvert-Lewin this summer, as they are one of the few clubs that could give him what he wants. The 28-year-old is looking for a long-term contract and a healthy salary at his new club, with the Magpies in a much better position with PSR; they have the facilities to match his demands.
With pre-season on the horizon, Calvert-Lewin will surely want to join a club soon to give himself the best chance of breaking into the starting XI.
