Portugal's head coach Roberto Martinez has expressed a heartfelt sentiment towards the loss of Diogo Jota and his brother Andre, stating their spirit "will be with us forever" after they were laid to rest on Saturday.
Tragically lost in a car accident in northern Spain on Thursday morning, Jota and his sibling, who played for Penafiel, have left an indelible mark on Portuguese football.
Following the repatriation of their bodies to Portugal late Thursday evening, a wake was held on Friday, culminating in a memorial service attended by family, friends, and colleagues at the Igreja Matriz de Gondomar on Saturday.
A significant delegation from Liverpool FC attended the service in Gondomar, including head coach Arne Slot, captain Virgil van Dijk, and Fenway Sports Group's CEO of football, Michael Edwards, along with numerous of Jota's Anfield colleagues, while Cristiano Ronaldo was absent.
Martinez, who led Portugal to UEFA Nations League victory last month over Spain, spoke to the press post-funeral service, conveying his deep sorrow: "I can only say that these are very, very sad days.
"Today was a demonstration for Diogo and Andre that we are all together and that we are Portugal.
"Now, I would like to thank everyone for their presence, for all the messages from all over the world. We are with Andre Silva and Diogo Jota. Their spirit will be with us forever. Always, always with us."

The 28 year old joined the Reds in September 2020 from Wolverhampton Wanderers and has since netted 65 goals in 182 appearances, clinching two Carabao Cups, the 2022 FA Cup, and last season's Premier League title.
Portugal stars including Bruno Fernandes, Ruben Dias and Bernardo Silva also paid their respects, with the Manchester City captain offering his own tribute to his international colleague.
Silva said: "I can't even imagine the pain of the family, of Rute, of the children, of the parents. For Andre and for Jota," Silva said speaking to AVI, via the Daily Mail.

"I must say a little about Jota, who was a great friend of all of us. His career, although not the most important, speaks for itself.
"He didn't train at any of the big teams and took the most difficult paths. His passion, will and determination allowed him to succeed in life and have a brilliant career.
"More important than that, as a person... the memories that remain... Jota will always be in our hearts. He will always be present at every breakfast, lunch, dinner, national team get-together, PlayStation or card game."
