Newcastle United will remain steadfast in their desire to keep hold of Tino Livramento despite increased speculation that Manchester City are keen on the defender.

Livramento has enjoyed a fantastic season both at right-back and left-back, helping the Magpies end their long wait for silverware and making his senior England debut.

The Newcastle star capped that off by helping England's Under-21s retain the European Championship trophy last week as they beat Germany in the final. Livramento was one of the stars of the tournament, looking a cut above almost every other England player in the squad.

Man City are keen on the player as they look to strengthen their backline. Pep Guardiola is a fan of the former Southampton player, and there had been talk of a £45million bid as City look at life without Kyle Walker.

However, Newcastle won't be selling Livramento anytime soon and even if they were, it would take an offer way in excess of that figure for a player they bought from Southampton for £32m two years ago.

The news comes after Walker joined Burnley on a two-year deal. The England veteran joins the newly-promoted Premier League side from City, where he had a year remaining on his contract. He had started as club captain of City last season, but finished on loan with AC Milan and was not part of Guardiola’s squad for this summer’s Club World Cup.

A move to Turf Moor reunites Walker with former Tottenham and England team-mate Scott Parker, who helped Burnley reach the top-flight with a second-place finish in last season’s Championship.

The 35-year-old said: “I’m delighted to be here. When I spoke to Scott and heard about his plans for next season, it was an opportunity I jumped at. He’s done an amazing job here, guiding the club back to the Premier League with a 100-point haul, and now we’re looking forward, together, at being back in the greatest league in the world.

“Burnley had a tremendous campaign last season, built on an incredible defensive record, and I can’t wait to come in and add my experience and quality to what looks an exciting squad.”

Walker joined City in a £45m move from Tottenham Hotspur in 2017. He made 410 English top-flight appearances and won 17 trophies, including six Premier League titles, two FA Cups and one Champions League and was part of their treble-winning team.

Walker has also been a key cog for England having been capped 96 times but his place is now under severe pressure from a host of right-backs, including Livramento.
