Dominic Calvert-Lewin appeared as a possible striker target for Leeds United this summer.
A striker is definitely an option Leeds will be looking to explore this window, as many targets have already come into the frame.
Joel Piroe’s future as Leeds’ number nine has come under threat, but fans believe Piroe deserves a chance.
This hasn’t stopped the 49ers from pursuing deals for a new frontman, though as Calvert-Lewin appeared on Leeds’ radar.
However, it was confirmed that Leeds weren’t continuing a deal for Calvert-Lewin, and this is why.

Why Leeds United rejected Calvert-Lewin deal
The 28-year-old confirmed his Everton departure after nine seasons, as his services can now be signed for free.
But with Daniel Farke opting to go against this, it brings concern as to why, with the Whites needing more options in their forward line.
Jermaine Beckford said Calvert-Lewin needed a move, but it appears that the next step won’t come at Elland Road.

With it being made clear a deal won’t be pursued, talkSPORT have the true reason why this didn’t happen.
The source suggests that Calvert-Lewin ‘wanted too much money’, leaving Farke with no choice but to reject the deal as it wouldn’t reflect well on the Leeds squad.

Leeds might have to take more risks amid Calvert-Lewin rejection
Although this seems highly sensible from the 49ers’ and Farke’s point of view, it might come back to bite them.
Of course, the jury is still out over Piroe in the Premier League but there is no denying fans want Patrick Bamford over Piroe in the Championship, let alone the top flight.
This brings reason why they need an experienced head up front, and Calvert-Lewin, despite his lack of form recently, has proved his worth.
After his rejection, Leeds might think twice if another striker of his status comes knocking, especially with many targets not coming to the Whites.
David Moyes has called Calvert-Lewin a ‘proper number nine’ and he could have been at Farke’s disposal for nothing.
There are positives due to his injury record, but if Farke got it right with Calvert-Lewin, the free transfer would have been lauded upon.
