Three Man United stars have now created a £50m problem for Manchester City - opinion

Manchester City are expected to offload several players ahead of the 25/26 Premier League campaign getting underway in August.

Pep Guardiola has made it clear on several occasions that he wants to work with a smaller group of players throughout the upcoming season, and having added Tijjani Reijnders to his Man City squad, along with three other stars this summer, the Manchester club now need to start selling.

Kyle Walker has now completed a move to Burnley, but doubt remains over the futures of Jack Grealish, John Stones, and Ilkay Gundogan.

Man City may find it difficult to part ways with some of these stars, and the latest news out of Manchester United has just made one sale a lot harder.

Three wingers have made it clear they want to leave Man United

Fabrizio Romano reported on Friday that left-wingers Marcus Rashford, Jadon Sancho, and Alejandro Garnacho have all informed Manchester United that they wish to leave the club this summer, in addition to Antony and Tyrell Malacia.

United have even delayed their return date until later in July to allow the players time to find a new club, which is a big problem for Man City as they try to offload Grealish.

Man City want £50m to part ways with Grealish this summer, which no club is going to pay, while the 29-year-old’s £300k-a-week wages are making a loan move difficult, as the Manchester club would need to pay the majority of it just for a club to become interested in the English winger.

In addition to the finances, any club needing a new left winger would prefer to sign one of the Man United trio as they are all younger, on less money, and are arguably better players than Grealish.

Garnacho, in particular, is the biggest problem for the Englishman, as the Argentina star is only 21 with a high ceiling, and any club that signs the winger could get a return on their investment down the line should the Man United star develop as expected.

How Jack Grealish compares to Alejandro Garnacho

Everton are one club linked with a move for Grealish, but other than that, the interest in the 29-year-old has not been there.

The winger will be hoping a club comes out of nowhere for him over the coming weeks, like Burnley did for Walker, but unlike the right-back, the left winger has competition from the likes of Rashford, Sancho, and Garnacho.

Player Games Goals Assists Minutes

Jack Grealish 32 3 5 1521

Alejandro Garnacho 58 11 10 3568

Marcus Rashford 41 11 9 2440

Jadon Sancho 42 5 10 2426

Garnacho is the best-performing winger out of the four, with the 21-year-old totalling 21 goal contributions for Man United last season, with Grealish bottom of the pile with just eight.

The Argentine has many flaws, but the youngster is also the most exciting of the four, as he is the fastest, is a solid dribbler, and is willing to take on any defender.

With the Englishman looking for a move this summer, nothing is in the Man City star’s favour, and if clubs are looking at the four players, the majority will pick one of the Man United stars over the 29-year-old, given all the factors involved.
