Tyler Bindon’s first words after joining Sheffield United on loan from Nottingham Forest

Nottingham Forest defender Tyler Bindon has signed for Sheffield United on loan, reuniting with former Reading boss Rubén Sellés.

After Bindon won Reading’s Player of the Year, thoughts turned to whether he would be given a chance in the Forest squad this season or sent out on loan for further development.

However, with Zach Abbott in a similar situation, it was decided that Bindon would be sent to the Championship as a bridge between his remarkable season at Reading.

Reuniting with Sellés looks to be the perfect fit for the New Zealand international, with Bindon now speaking for the first time as a Sheffield United player.

Tyler Bindon is ‘very grateful’ after Sheffield United loan confirmed

Reading fans expect Bindon to star in the Premier League eventually, but a season fighting for promotion in the Championship will surely be more beneficial to the defender than the limited opportunities at the City Ground.

Clearly, Bindon feels the same way as he spoke to Sheffield United’s website about how excited he is to get started.

He said: “I’m very grateful to be here and it is amazing I get this opportunity. Rubén is a great person and coach, and I feel I can still learn so much more from him, it will be special to do that here at United.

“I’m always looking forward to any new challenge in football. The game has always been big in my family with my mum playing for New Zealand when I was growing up. I fell in love with the game and my dad is passionate about it too, so it has always been in my life.”

Through a combination of Sellés’ trust and the current options available at the back for The Blades, Bindon should be in line for plenty of first-team action.

Tyler Bindon should have a fruitful loan at Sheffield United

United were so close to being a Premier League side this season, losing out only to a 95th-minute Jack Clarke goal to see Sunderland win the Championship play-off final.

This heartbreak will surely play into Bindon’s hands, though, giving him more opportunities in a Blades defence that isn’t blessed with too many options:

Anel Ahmedhodzic

Jack Robinson

Jamal Baptiste

Rhys Norrington-Davies

Of the listed options, it was only really Ahmedhodzic and Robinson who played significant minutes last season, with Rob Holding making 11 appearances on loan from Crystal Palace as well.

Neither Ahmedhodzic nor Robinson broke the 40-game barrier for the Blades either, showing that Bindon should receive chances, only boosted by Sellés’ trust in him.
