Why Manchester United have not signed Bryan Mbeumo amid£60million offer and transfer wait

Man United remain confident of signing Bryan Mbeumo from Brentford but there has been no breakthrough just yet.

It's been almost a month since Manchester United saw their opening offer for Bryan Mbeumo knocked back.

The Reds returned with a second bid but that still fell short of Brentford's valuation of their forward and for now the Cameroon international remains in west London.

United remain confident of securing the services of the 25-year-old but as yet no breakthrough has materialised.

The two clubs remain locked in talks with Brentford holding out for an improved offer and United seeking to find a compromise.

The Reds return to pre-season training on Monday and fly out to America in a couple of weeks for their three-match tour of the US. United would love to have Mbeumo on board for that flight.

But that will take movement on either side for a deal to be struck. United had an opening offer totalling £55million rejected in early June and returned with an improved bid of more than £60million but the Bees rebuffed the advance.

Brentford are standing their ground and until United stump up the cash, the Londoners will hold firm. The longer the saga goes on, the more chance there is of the dial moving towards United as both sides seek a conclusion amid the player's preference to move to Old Trafford.

Brentford sporting director Phil Giles spoke this week about Mbeumo potentially remaining at the Gtech Stadium although that still seems unlikely with both clubs accepting that there is a deal to be done.

"There's significant interest in Bryan. I think it's been documented and publicised about, you know, his current preference," said Giles.

"From what I understand, if needs be, he's happy to stay at Brentford next year as well, so listen, let's see on that. I think our position is he had an unbelievable season last year and we expected interest in him. If that deal is right, then there's a deal to do, but if not, then he'll stay."

Giles was asked about conversations regarding Mbeumo staying at Brentford and responded: "We've spoken to Bryan and his representatives. It's not a given that he is going to depart this summer.

"There is interest. He had a great season last season, so the interest is inevitable. If we get the right offer, there is potentially a deal to be done, but there's only so much we can say on that."
