Leeds United secure versatile wide man on three-year contract as latest young star signs deal

Leeds United have tied down another of their rising academy stars to a long term deal after agreeing a three-year contract with Josh McDonald. The 18-year-old forward becomes the second academy signing of the weekend after the news Scotland under-21 international goalkeeper with goalkeeper Rory Mahady had also signed a three-year contract.

Like Mahady, McDonald is also a Scotland youth international having broken into the under-17s team and made four appearances for the Young Scots.

Able to play on either side of the pitch as an attacker, McDonald was the star of a number of performances for Scott Gardner's under-21s team last season, making 14 appearances in the Premier League 2 competition, while also helping Leeds to winning the National League Cup.

In a statement Leeds said: "Leeds United are pleased to announce that Academy forward Josh McDonald has renewed his contract with the club. Everyone at Leeds United would like to congratulate Josh and we look forward to seeing his continued development at Thorp Arch."

While Leeds look to strengthen the first team squad with senior players ahead of their return to the Premier League this summer, the squad are working hard in the background to strengthen their academy and secure the long term future of their brightest talents, with one eye on the not too distant future.
