Liverpool FC and international players, as well as member of the football community from around the globe paid an emotional tribute to Diogo Jota and Andre Silva at a funeral service today. Jota, 28, was travelling with his brother, Andre Silva, in the Zamora region of Sanabria, Spain when the tragedy occurred on Thursday, July 3.
Jota signed for Liverpool FC from Wolves back in September 2020. His brother, who is two years younger, was a professional for Portuguese second-tier team Penafiel.
The brothers were laid to rest today, July 5, at Matriz de Gondomar church in their hometown, just 7km east of Porto. Members of the public lined the streets outside the church to pay their respects to two people who were loved so so dearly in the Gondomar community.
Figures from across the footballing world united to pay their respects to the two men after their tragic deaths. A delegation of Liverpool players led by Virgil van Dijk and Andy Robertson were in attendance at the funeral. Van Dijk and Robertson were holding floral tributes featuring the shirt numbers worn.
