Jets Slapped With Concerning Justin Fields Update

Another new era is set to begin for the New York Jets at the quarterback position during the upcoming 2025 NFL season.

Gone is Aaron Rodgers, who played two years with the Jets. To replace him, the team went out and signed former Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Justin Fields to a two-year, $40 million contract in NFL free agency.

Fields has shown flashes of major potential throughout his career thus far. However, he has been unable to show consistency during his stints with the Steelers and Chicago Bears. He's hoping to change that in 2025.

Originally drafted by the Bears with the No. 11 overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft, Fields has played in 50 career games thus far. He was traded to Pittsburgh last offseason and did show signs of improvement.

During the 10 games he played with the Steelers, which included six starts, he completed 65.8 percent of his pass attempts for 1,106 yards, five touchdowns, and an interception, while running for 289 yards and five more scores.

Heading into the upcoming campaign, no one knows exactly what to expect from Fields. Could he actually end up being a long-term option for New York?

A new update has been shared that gives the Jets and their fans reason to be concerned about the 26-year-old quarterback.

Nick Faria of Jets X-Factor offered some thoughts about what he saw from Fields during the team's minicamp.

"Some of the issues that we saw earlier in his career: completion percentage in the fourth quarter, being late on his reads, being too slow to process, bailing from the pocket a little bit too early, all of those things have followed him over the last four years with the Chicago Bears and the Pittsburgh Steelers. You're seeing similar things happen at minicamp. You saw it happen where some of the issues he had where he was late on some of his throws, he was late in his processing, that was happening at minicamp," Faria said.

So far, Fields has shown some of the bad habits that has led him to this point. It's still too early to know what to expect from him with the Jets, but those are concerning thoughts.

Despite the concerns, there were obvious signs of improvement from Fields last season. If he can take another similar jump in 2025, New York could be in good shape.

Only time will tell, but the Jets badly need Fields to take another step forward this season.
