**There are still no new faces through the doors at St James' Park with Eddie Howe and his Newcastle United players set to return to training on Monday, but there's definite momentum now after an excruciatingly slow start.**
Newcastle fans have watched on as other clubs have swept up reported Toon targets leaving fans with a sense of sickening deja vu.
The Magpies haven't made a meaningful first-team addition to the squad since summer 2023. You could argue that Will Osula could fall into the category of a first-team addition, but we'd say that his lack of appearances in the first season means he doesn't fit the bill.
The likes of Bryan Mbeumo, Joao Pedro, Liam Delap, and now Jonathan David are all heading, or have already headed elsewhere, while Newcastle seemingly twiddle their thumbs.

Recently, though, things have started to move in the right direction with bids going in for James Trafford and Anthony Elanga which many journalists expect to result in moves.
Now, Fabrizio Romano has shed a bit more light on the rumours surrounding Newcastle and Italy defender Giorgio Scalvini who is suddenly being very strongly linked with Newcastle.
> "🚨⚫️⚪️ Giorgio Scalvini, one of the main names on Newcastle shortlist for this summer.
>
> "Understand there are also more clubs keen on Scalvini and involved in the race, not an easy deal with Atalanta but initial approaches took place."
Rumours around a move for Scalvini have been intensifying over the last few days with reports suggesting that £30 million could be what it takes for Newcastle to land the exciting 21-year-old.
Despite his injury woes last season which saw Scalvini limited to just eight appearances for Atalanta, Newcastle, and other clubs, seem more than willing to take the risk.
The reports around Scalvini have excited the Newcastle fanbase, perhaps even more so than the idea of signing Marc Guehi who Newcastle still hold an interest in despite last year's transfer shenanigans.
