Report: Man Utd in talks to sign ‘phenomenal’ Brazilian after Cunha, Amorim thinks he’s a…

Manchester United are reportedly planning a move for Botafogo goalkeeper John Victor, who has been one of the standout performers at the FIFA Club World Cup.

Brazilian outlet BolaVIP reports that the Red Devils are keen on John, 29, and would be prepared to offer £10m amid their desire to sign a new shot-stopper. This suggests Andre Onana's future remains uncertain amid reports that Ruben Amorim is considering sending the struggling Cameroonian out on loan.

Onana, 29, was signed as David de Gea's replacement in the summer of 2023, following an impressive spell at Inter Milan. He has been a disappointment, making several costly mistakes, and there's an obvious need for a new number one.

United have notably been long-term admirers of John; their interest extends back to the winter when doubts continued to grow over Onana's reliability. His stock has grown in Brazil amid some superb displays for Botafogo, keeping 32 clean sheets in 79 games, including in a 1-0 win over Paris Saint-Germain in the FIFA Club World Cup.

It's thought that John, dubbed "phenomenal", could be the latest high-profile Botafogo departure following Igor Jesus' move to Nottingham Forest. He helped the club win the Brazilian title and Copa Libertadores and was voted the best player in Brazil.

Botafogo owner John Textor "really likes John", but could be open to a sale for a good price amid United's interest. He is one of two South American shot-stoppers seemingly on Amorim's radar as he looks to put his project into place.

GIVEMESPORT sources understand that Aston Villa's Emiliano Martinez, 32, has "offered himself" to the Red Devils. The issue regarding a deal for the Argentine is that the Villans want £40m for the veteran shot-stopper whose stay at Villa Park looks to be over.
