Leeds United still have plenty of work to do in the window before their Premier League campaign.

With exits from Elland Road raising useful funds that could be invested elsewhere, United’s squad is beginning to take shape for next season.

The Whites have also made three additions in the window so far and are linked with more players like former Arsenal defender Nuno Tavares, but the 49ers and Daniel Farke will be aware that further investment will be needed to help Leeds avoid the drop.

Goalkeeper and striker are two positions that need to be addressed, with the former receiving a major update.

Rory Mahady signs three-year deal at Thorp Arch

With Illan Meslier’s future in West Yorkshire uncertain after another disastrous season, Leeds are in the market for a goalkeeper ahead of their return to the top flight.

MORE LEEDS STORIES

Torino goalkeeper Vanja Milinkovic-Savic has been linked with a move to Elland Road as United’s pursuit of a first-choice shot-stopper continues.

Leeds did, however, provide another goalkeeping update on their official website on Saturday (5 July) as academy goalkeeper Rory Mahady has put pen to paper on a new three-year deal.

Mahady made 17 appearances for Scott Gardner’s Under-21s side last season in the Premier League 2.

Mahady, 18, is also a Scottish youth international, with the youngster starring as the young Whites were crowned champions of the inaugural National League Cup.

Realistic pathway to first-team football at Elland Road for Mahady

The goalkeeper position at Leeds United has been an issue for close to a decade following Rob Green’s departure in 2017.

Whilst Mahady will certainly not be starting for the Whites in the Premier League, a realistic path to first-team football is there for the youngster.

Meslier’s days at United look numbered, and at 34, Karl Darlow is not a long-term solution either, despite enjoying a solid end to Leeds’ Championship title-winning season.

Whether Lucas Perri or someone else is brought in to be the club’s first-choice ‘keeper, Mahady could quickly ascend the ranks himself to be a backup option for Farke at minimum if he continues to develop.

Maybe the teenager could be the one to break Leeds United’s goalkeeper curse.
