It looks like Manchester United won’t have the spotlight to themselves when it comes to Botafogo goalkeeper John.
The 29-year-old has been on United’s radar since January, with goalkeeping coach Jorge Vital even reaching out to contacts at the Brazilian club.
[As we previously reported](https://sportwitness.co.uk/back-on-agenda-manchester-united-scout-impressed-and-bargain-signing-under-consideration/), a scout was also spotted in the stands during Botafogo’s Club World Cup match against Palmeiras and PSG, keeping a close eye on the action.
Now, [according to reports from Globo Esporte](https://ge.globo.com/futebol/times/botafogo/noticia/2025/07/05/manchester-united-e-everton-da-inglaterra-monitoram-o-goleiro-john-do-botafogo.ghtml?utm_source=Twitter&utm_medium=Social&utm_content=Esporte&utm_campaign=globoEsporte), Everton have jumped into the mix.
The Toffees are short on gloves after parting ways with several keepers this summer, and while John wouldn’t arrive as first choice, he could be seen as a solid number two: dependable, experienced, and in great form.
So far, there’s been plenty of watching but no bidding. Botafogo see the interest as a natural result of John’s performances, especially after his standout displays on the international stage.
Manchester United, meanwhile, are still weighing their options, with Altay Bayindir expected to leave and the club in need of cover behind André Onana.
