'Difficult position': Harvey Elliott told whether he should leave Liverpool for Newcastle United

Newcastle United have been linked with a move for Liverpool midfielder Harvey Elliott this summer, and has now been told whether he should make the £50m move to Tyneside.

After barely getting a chance in Arne Slot’s side this season, the 22-year-old was finally able to show off his quality at the Under-21 European Championships in Slovakia last month.

Harvey Elliott was named the Player of the Tournament after scoring five goals in the Young Lions’ six games in the competition, showing Slot that he should have been playing much more often. With Elliott in search of more game time, and Newcastle United looking to improve their squad ahead of a return to the Champions League next season, the midfielder has been linked with a move to Tyneside.

Geordie Boot Boys were informed that Elliott is desperate to leave Liverpool, and Newcastle are one of the clubs looking at him.

Reports have stated that Elliott will cost Newcastle around £50million this summer if he does not have a buy-back clause included in his deal, and £40m if it does. It is a big price to pay for someone who is seen as a fringe player by his club, but his talent is undeniable.

With Elliott looking keen to leave Liverpool, Ben Foster has said whether he should make the move away from Merseyside this summer.

Ben Foster urges Harvey Elliott to stay at Liverpool amid Newcastle United links

Elliott is great friends with Tino Livramento. The latter posted on his social media page about how much he missed him last week, but he could soon be reunited with him if a deal comes to fruition.

After winning the Premier League with Liverpool, it is believed that Elliott wants to be at a club in the Champions League, giving them a good opportunity to steal a march on other interested parties.

However, former Premier League keeper Foster has urged Elliott against leaving Liverpool this summer, with the belief that he will play more often next season.

“He’s in such a difficult position because he’s still really young,” Foster said on Fozcast.

“He’s obviously unbelievably talented and I feel like we’re only just starting to see the shoots of promise of what he can actually start doing.

“He scored that goal against PSG last season. I think that was his big moment for him last year and in that season. But the way he’s ripped it up for the 21s the end of this season has been phenomenal.

“So I don’t think Liverpool would want to let him go. I don’t see why they would want to let him go. I think he’s going to play more games this season than he probably ever has done. So I think the best (option) for him is to stay at Liverpool with all those world-class players, keep learning, keep progressing.”

Whether Harvey Elliott will get the game time he wants at Newcastle United

There is no doubt that Elliott is one of the most promising young players in Europe and that his stock rose significantly after his heroics at the Under-21 Euros. However, he may struggle to find the game time he is so desperate for at Newcastle.

Predominantly a central midfielder, Elliott can also play as an attacking midfielder and a right-winger. However, Newcastle are closing in on a deal for Anthony Elanga, effectively solving their problem in that position.

Additionally, Newcastle have a core midfield of Joelinton, Sandro Tonali and Bruno Guimaraes. That midfield appears to be unbreakable at the moment, so it is unlikely that Elliott will be able to force his way in for his first few months at the club, at least.

Like Foster said, we have yet to see the best from Elliott, but it may be the best-case scenario that he goes to a club where he is guaranteed the opportunity to grow and play much more first-team football.
