Jonathan David joins Juventus after Lille exit

Juventus have announced the signing of Jonathan David from French club Lille.

He joins the Turin giants on a free transfer following the expiration of his contract with the Ligue 1 side.

The 25-year-old Canadian international began his professional career with Belgian outfit KAA Gent in 2018, where he amassed an impressive record of 30 goals in 60 appearances.

He moved to Lille in 2020 and was part of the team that won the title in his debut season.

Over five seasons at the club, he scored more than a hundred goals and became Canada’s all-time leading goalscorer. The Italian side have beaten several others to secure his signature.

David said on the move: "Growing up as a kid, I always looked up to a club like Juventus and said, you know, this is one of the top 10 biggest clubs in the world," David said in an interview posted on the team’s website.

"So for me, today, to be seen here is an honour. It feels good. Just trying to pave the way for other Canadians that are talented to one day be able to do the same things that I am doing right now."

The striker has signed a five-year deal, and Juventus are set to pay additional costs of £10.8M on top of his wages.
