Ramano squashes rumour linking Manchester United with deadly€75m striker

Transfer expert rejects the rumour surrounding a potential deal between Manchester United and Napoli for forward Victor Osimhen this summer. The Italian journalist highlighted that Saudi Pro League club Al-Halal and Galatasaray are ahead in the race to sign him.

The Red Devils have maintained their focus on strengthening the attacking department first under Ruben Amorim during this summer window. The Portuguese boss has demanded a squad overhaul to help kickstart his long-term project at the club under his vision.

The United squad failed to adjust properly to the tactical demands of Amorim, leading to the current predicament this summer. The Red Devils’ attacking unit has underperformed long before Amorim arrived at the club last season to change their fortune.

Fabrizio Romano rejected the rumours suggesting Manchester United and Napoli are negotiating a deal involving Victor Osimhen.

United have already signed Matheus Cunha from Wolves as they continue to work on a deal to sign Bryan Mbeumo. With two attacking options behind the number nine already established, the striker position itself remains an unsolved problem for United.

Speaking on his YouTube channel, Romano rejected the rumours that United and Napoli are negotiating a transfer deal involving Osimhen. He said:

“At the moment, still no breakthrough in this story [Victor Osimhen’s transfer situation], and nothing will happen in the coming hours. So it will take a few days before we understand the future of Victor Osimhen. At the moment, I keep receiving many questions from Manchester United fans. But at the moment, I’m not aware of concrete negotiations between Man United and Napoli for Victor Osimhen. Remember, the player has a release clause of €75m. At the moment, Al-Hilal from Saudi and Galatasaray, where the player was on loan last season, keep working on a deal to get Victor Osimhen.”

Both Joshua Zirkzee and Rasmus Hojlund have failed to establish themselves and become reliable contributors as the main number nine. Meanwhile, there is a clear idea that the club wants a new striker, with the likes of Ollie Watkins linked.

Like Watkins, Osimhen is an experienced striker with more probability of succeeding immediately than any young long-term project. Furthermore, the 26-year-old is available for €75m, a steep price, but at least a valuation unlike Watkins’ situation at Villa.

At the same time, the price will remain a concern for the Red Devils, who have to sell players first. We All Follow United covered that a potential Mbeumo deal would take a big chunk out of United’s budget, forcing them to sell their surplus before they could buy any new players that Amorim requires, which includes a potential Osimhen deal, no matter how unlikely that is.
