The Rockets have traded Cam Whitmore to the Wizards for two second-round picks, parting ways with the 2023 first-rounder after just two seasons. As Houston retools around Kevin Durant, Washington gains a young, explosive wing for their long-term rebuild.
In a surprising move, the Houston Rockets are trading second-year forward Cam Whitmore to the Washington Wizards in exchange for two second-round picks in 2026 and 2029, per reports from ESPN’s Shams Charania and The Athletic’s Josh Robbins.

Whitmore, the No. 20 pick in the 2023 NBA Draft out of Villanova, showed flashes of star potential during his rookie season, averaging 12.3 points per game.
But with Houston’s rapid rise to a 52-30 record last season and the recent blockbuster acquisition of Kevin Durant, Whitmore’s minutes and role diminished in his second year, falling to 9.4 points per game.
A Maryland native, Whitmore now returns closer to home as he joins the Wizards, offering Washington a young, athletic piece in their rebuild. For the Rockets, this move clears more space and flexibility as they reload around a win-now core headlined by Durant.
This deal is the latest in a string of bold offseason moves by Houston, signaling their intent to compete immediately — even at the cost of young talent like Whitmore.
