Manchester United and Everton are monitoring Botafogo goalkeeper John Victor, according to Brazilian outlet Globo Esporte.
The Red Devils could enter the transfer market for a new shot-stopper this summer.
Andre Onana is poised to continue as the number one, but Altay Bayindir is ‘expected’ to pursue a new challenge, as per Globo.
Victor has been earmarked as a potential replacement. The 29-year-old has been on the Red Devils’ radar since the start of the year.
Contact has been established with his representatives too, but United have yet to make an official bid.
The Red Devils are not alone in the pursuit with Everton also keeping tabs on the player’s situation.
Victor would be a good understudy for Onana
The Brazilian had a good league campaign with Botafogo. He had a save success rate of 81 percent.
Victory also excelled with his distribution, completing almost 80 percent of his passes.
He was likewise impressive at the Club World Cup with 3.3 saves per outing.
His strong reflexes and distribution skills would suit the tactical system under manager Ruben Amorim.
Onana is poised to continue in goal next season, having received Amorim’s support.
However, the Portuguese tactician does not shy away from making changes if required.
Onana was guilty of making five errors leading to goals during the previous campaign.
If he were to continue the trend, Amorim may not think twice about dropping him from the XI.
Victor would be a good deputy and could be signed for £10.3 million this summer.
