Manuel Neuer was hot under the collar after Bayern Munich’s 2-0 loss to Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League...and it was not all about the final score.
PSG goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma’s challenge on Jamal Musiala at the end of the first half looks to have resulted in a major injury for the budding star. Neuer felt like the play was unnecessary.
“It was a situation where you don’t have to go in like that. That’s risk-taking. He was prepared to accept the risk of injuring his opponent,” Neuer told Sky Germany’s Kerry Hau (as captured by @iMiaSanMia). “I went to him and said, ‘Don’t you want to go and see our player?’ It’s a matter of respect, of going there and wishing the guy all the best. He then did it. Fairplay is always a part of it. I would have reacted differently.”
The loss of Musiala could end up being devastating, depending on the severity of the injury. With that, the actual outcome of the match almost become an afterthought.
