Manchester United are interested in signing former Everton striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin this summer and have reached out to him, according to the Sun.
The 28-year-old 11-cap England international is available for free after he left for Toffees following nine seasons at the end of last season, and the Red Devils are considering bringing him to the Old Trafford club.
Man United believe Calvert-Lewin has the qualities they lack in a forward and could be willing to offer him a lucrative contract, including bonuses for appearances.
They see him as a cover for a main striker as their head coach Ruben Amorim still wants a top number 9 capable of getting the job done in front of goal, but the former Everton star could fancy his chances of proving himself and forcing his way into the starting XI.
He notched just three goals in 26 Premier League games last term and 14 times in 67 top-flight appearances across the 2021-22, 2022-23 and 2023-24 campaigns, but he was explosive before then, bagging 29 league goals across the 2019-20 and 2020-21 campaigns.
The form earned him 11 appearances for the Three Lions between 2020 and 2021, and he scored four times, but frequent injuries have seen him lose form, and taking a punt on him despite effectively seeing him as a third-choice number 9 would be a huge gamble from Man United.
However, it appears signing such an experienced free agent is very tempting for the Red Devils as they could do with depth in the position next term despite the lack of European football, and joining such a prestigious club could be appealing to Calvert-Lewin.
Amorim has been eyeing a reunion with Sporting CP striker Viktor Gyokeres, but Arsenal are standing in his way and Man United may also need to sell before making further recruitment after a deal for Brentford attacker Bryan Mbeumo is secured.
