Manchester United have received a promising update on Viktor Gyokeres.

United have been eyeing Gyokeres since November, with Ruben Amorim eager to bring a top-notch striker into his team.

However, Sporting CP's president Frederico Varandas last month firmly stated that the forward wouldn't be leaving for €60million (£51m) plus €10m (£8m) in add-ons, as was previously speculated.

"I can guarantee that Viktor will not leave for €60million plus €10million," Varandas announced. "Viktor already knows and I want Sporting fans to take advantage of this summer, in which they are two-time champions, in which they have a double, to celebrate, to be calm.

"There are only two scenarios: one club respects the price requested by Sporting and Viktor will fulfil his dream, and from that moment we will be ready to attack the targets, or that club does not want Viktor, and Viktor, with a three-year contract, stays at Sporting and we will be very happy."

Sporting are believed to be holding out for a fee around €80million (£69m) for their star player, reports the Manchester Evening News.

However, it seems Gyokeres wasn't chuffed with those comments, despite earlier reports suggesting there's been an agreement between him and the club for a more reasonable exit fee than his hefty €100m (£86m) release clause.

Portuguese paper A Bola has hinted that Sporting might be willing to negotiate the €80m asking price with 'realistic variables', suggesting a possible upfront payment of €70m (£60m) and an additional €10m (£8m) in performance-related bonuses.

Gyokeres is due back for pre-season training on Monday, July 7, but there's uncertainty over whether he'll turn up amid contrary rumours swirling in Portugal.

In other news, Portuguese publication Record claims that Gyokeres has knocked back lucrative offers from Al Hilal and Al Qadisiyah, both ready to splash out millions on him.
