Former Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger said that he would take prime Aaron Rodgers over prime Patrick Mahomes.
Mahomes, who has become the hallmark of the NFL at quarterback in recent seasons, is rapidly gaining ground in the greatest of all time discussions.
Yet, Roethlisberger is not there just yet.
“I would take Aaron in his prime over Patrick now,” Roethlisberger said on Footbahlin. “I think Aaron Rodgers, in his prime, was one of the top few to ever do it. So is Patrick Mahomes in his prime. Patrick Mahomes is just entering out of his prime. I think Patrick Mahomes is going to go down as another arguable GOAT.”
It seems the comments got back to some in Mahomes’ camp. Mahomes’ trainer, Bobby Stroupe, took a shot at Roethlisberger over the comments he made on his podcast.
“Not everybody quits working out at 30 years old, Ben,” Stroupe wrote last week on X.
Rodgers and Mahomes are two of the best quarterbacks ever to play the game, but in terms of Super Bowl trips and wins, Mahomes would win that argument. Regarding individual accolades, Rodgers can have that as a trump card over Mahomes as a four-time MVP winner.
Either way, Roethlisberger hopes to see the Steelers surround Rodgers with another wide receiver to maximize his talent at 41 years old. That will be a key factor in whether the experiment with Rodgers will work.
